The friends who blog together, stay together…or at least they post every minute detail, embarrassing photo and incriminating video

This is the pathway of destruction left in the wake of four bloggers taking Orlando by storm this weekend:

1. Two car wrecks in the first two minutes of hitting the road from Brandon….one on fire, one flipped over….I have had pictures **see #4 and you’ll know why you’re not seeing any of them.

2. One air mattress (that I’ll be replacing ASAP because it belongs to my MIL)….after driving on the interstate for an hour, Izzy and I got out of the car and realized that the cord hadn’t gotten all the way into the trunk and had been dragged for miles…it is now a sad, pitiful nub of plastic….again, picture, but no picture.

3.  One set of pajamas and my most beloved pillow left behind at Shash’s house.  I have no idea how I’m going to sleep tonight, but I can guarantee that it will be with bitter tears of disappointment.

4.  Shash lost her Razor phone and I mourn my Blackberry, plus all four of us lost cameras in a wet purse incident at 2AM in City Walk.  We have no idea what happened, but the purse interior retained enough fluid to brew a full pot of coffee and everything we had was soaked and destroyed….except for Britt’s memory card.  So sad. I am now cell phone-less and camera-less.  I can almost feel my life’s purpose draining away.

5.  If SeaWorld burned down today, I have no idea what anyone is talking about.  I was in Brandon the entire weekend and I’m sure I can find alibis.

But SO WORTH IT, people!

What made it worth it all?

1. Getting the chance to meet three women whose blogs I’ve been reading, who brought real life personalities to entities only captured in twitter and emailes and blog posts, sharing stuff about blogging that no one else in my non-blogging world understand…I felt like part of the community in a whole new way.  It rocked!

2.  We laughed. Oh my stars and garters did we laugh.  We were giggling fools, we tickled ourselves silly.  I don’t know that I’ve ever laughed so hard for so long.  There was nothing sacred or inappropriate and we just let it all hang out and you know what? We laughed at that too.

3.  Learning the coolest things about new friends:  Britt really does have the best hair on the interwebs, folks…Shash drives like a Nascar racer….Izzy might be the most photogenic person I’ve ever been near, and forced to photograph WITH, which was highly unsatisfying on my part…Britt’s laugh is totally contagious….Shash loves all the same movies I do…Izzy has a thing for hot shirtless things walking down the street.

4.  No one slapped me becaues I snore…which, hello! hotel room with three practical strangers/new friends and no one said, “Dude, you are so on your own for a room at BlogHer next year, sorry”….BFFs ya’ll.

5.  And FOR REAL, when the cabbie asked who we were and how we knew each other, I got to hear Britt tell him, “Well, we’re kind of a big deal on the Internet.”  She uses the phrase “we” so liberally.  And again with the laughing.

So, my cell phone and my camera bit the dust (Izzy and Britt’s good cameras both made it out alive, so hopefully I’ll steal some of those to share with you).

That really, truly, monumentally sucks.

But I wouldn’t have missed this weekend for the world.

She’s quick, I’ll give her that

The temperature was a FRIGID 73 degrees.

The fighting began the moment we got in the van.

Rachael wraps up in a blanket sitting in the back of the van.

Peyton counters by grasping the edge of the blanket and whipping it away from her.

Peyton snaps: It’s MINE!

Rachael whines : Mommmm, Peyton just grabbed that blanket that belongs to her that I was using.

Me: Rachael, what was the KEY phrase in that sentence?

Pause.

Rachael: I was using?

This is my life, people.

Blogging weekend

I am about to get in my van and driving away from all that is dearest and nearest to my heart.

My husband.

My children.

See ya!

I am going out of town for the weekend and I’m planning to love every moment of it.

Bonus?

I’m going with strangers.

Well, sort of strangers.

Only strangers in the sense that we’ve never met or actually spoken before.

But lots and lots of emails and blog visits.

People, you forget, I got married to someone I met on the internet…why would I have issues with spending the night with four people I’ve never laid eyes on?

I’m carpooling to Orlando with this one.

Where we’re staying with her.

And she’s going to show up and party like a rock star.

Perhaps if a miracle happens, we will also get to see this guy.

We were supposed to be getting in a vehicle and road-tripping to New Orleans this very weekend to attend a conference that got cancelled.  Booooooo!  Instead we’re going to have our very own blogger conference right here…with food and stuff and maybe we won’t get cool bags of swag, but there might be a trip to IKEA involved. Who knows?!

Stay tuned, because there will probably be some interesting posts as a result, I guarantee some pictures of the chaos and I wouldn’t bet against some mad twittering.

And BTW, Peter’s heading to Las Vegas for the week.  How bitter am I about that? Wish him luck because he is freaked about getting on an plane.

OH, and next week I’ve got some RAWKIN’ giveaways and fun stuff to share with you. Hopefully it’ll keep my mind off the impending panic attacks over Peyton’s end of chemo date.

Using my laziness for good, not evil

I am wallowing in the lazy today.

L.A.Z.Y.

Masked in the guise of doing something good for someone else.

Still thrilled it allows me to indulge in the lazy.

I don’t have to do an actual post today.

I can’t wait to tell you about my weekend plans and the fun things in store!  But not today.

Today?  I bring you a post from 5 Minutes for Moms:

So, for this installment of Blogs Can Change Lives, we are partnering with Sony PlayStation to bring PSP® (PlayStation Portable) systems to kids with life threatening or long term illnesses.

With your help, we are going to find TEN kids who are dealing with serious illness and periods of hospitalization and gift them each with a PSP Bundle.

Go, nominate a kid, give them the chance to make someone in your life very happy.

Fall Shmall

It seems like everywhere I look it’s “HEY, Welcome to fall! Aren’t you thrilled about the changing seasons! The pretty colors!! The crisp air!!! The upcoming holiday season!!!!! The mad overuse of exclamation points!!!!”

It was 90 degrees in Tampa yesterday, people.  It’s all palm trees, all the time.

I’m having a remarkable amount of trouble getting into the swing of the season.

I leave you with this.

MEH.
